What it is

Voice search optimization is making your content easy to find and easy to answer when someone speaks a query into their phone, smart speaker, or car. Voice queries are longer, more conversational, and almost always phrased as full questions. Your content has to match that register to compete — because voice assistants give one answer, not a page of results.

Why it matters

Voice search is dominant on mobile and in certain demographics. More importantly, the way voice search works — one answer, no scrolling — makes it the most extreme version of winner-take-all search. If your content provides the answer, you win. If it doesn't, someone else's does.

The mistake most people make

Writing content in formal, document-style prose that sounds nothing like a spoken answer. Voice search results pull content that sounds like a person talking, not like a corporate FAQ. If your content is stiff and keyword-stuffed, voice assistants skip past it without hesitation.
