Domain Authority

What it is

Domain Authority (DA) is a score — typically on a scale of 1 to 100 — developed by Moz that predicts how likely a website is to rank in search results. It's calculated based on the number and quality of backlinks pointing to your domain, among other factors. Higher scores mean more ranking power. It's a third-party metric, not an official Google measurement, but it's widely used as a useful benchmark.

Why it matters

Domain Authority gives you a rough sense of where you stand against competitors and how much work it'll take to outrank them. Trying to outrank a DA 70 site with a DA 15 site for a competitive keyword is a long road. Knowing this helps you prioritize realistic battles you can actually win.

The mistake most people make

Obsessing over their own DA score in isolation. DA only matters relative to your competitors. A DA of 25 might be plenty to dominate a local niche where your competitors are all at DA 15. Focus on being stronger than the competition, not hitting an arbitrary number.
