What it is
Google Search Console (GSC) is a free tool from Google that shows you how your website performs in Google Search. It tells you which queries your site appears for, how often people click your listings, which pages have indexing errors, whether your sitemap has been processed, and if Google has any manual actions against your site. It's your direct line of communication with Google.
Why it matters
SEO without data is guessing. Google Search Console turns guesswork into decisions. You can see exactly which keywords are driving traffic, spot pages that are ranking on page two and just need a push, catch technical errors before they become disasters, and understand how Google sees your site versus how you think it sees your site.
The mistake most people make
Never setting it up. A shocking number of business websites don't have Google Search Console connected, which means their owners are flying completely blind. It's free, takes fifteen minutes to set up, and provides data you literally cannot get anywhere else.
