NAP Consistency

What it is

NAP stands for Name, Address, and Phone number. NAP consistency means your business's name, address, and phone number appear exactly the same way across every online directory, social profile, and citation site where your business is listed. The same spelling, the same abbreviations, the same formatting — everywhere, every time.

Why it matters

Google cross-references your business information across hundreds of sources to verify that you are who you say you are, located where you say you are. Inconsistencies — even small ones like "St." versus "Street" — create conflicting signals that erode Google's confidence in your business and drag down your local rankings.

The mistake most people make

Changing the business name, moving locations, or getting a new phone number without updating every listing across the web. Old information lingers on directory sites for years, quietly undermining your local SEO even after you've updated your website and Google Business Profile.
