Content Management System (CMS)

What it is

A content management system is the software that lets you edit your website without touching code. You log in, click edit, change your text, upload a photo, publish — done. WordPress, Webflow, Squarespace, and Shopify are all examples of CMSs.

Why it matters

Without a CMS, every change on your website requires a developer. Want to update your phone number? Developer. Add a blog post? Developer. Change a team member's photo? Developer. A CMS puts you in control of your own content without needing to know how to code.

The mistake most people make

Picking a CMS based on what's cheapest or most popular instead of what fits how you actually work. The best CMS for your business is the one your team will actually use without dreading it — not the one with the most features you'll never touch.
